Myths and Misconceptions about Substance Use/Misuse | Dr. V S Ravindran | The Question Slip 81

Many are under the misconception that alcohol boosts confidence. When in fact what alcohol does is merely supresses an individual’s inhibitions. This renders a person unable to talk or behave intelligently, which will just contribute to him/her cutting a sorry figure in any situation. Consuming alcohol, ostensibly to build confidence, will in no way contribute to social success or career growth. On the same note, substances like marijuana have nothing to do with the ability to concentrate or think creatively. Marijuana is categorized as a hallucinogen and may lead to the user experiencing hallucinations, and prolonged use may become the precipitating factor for mental illnesses.
