Recently Vela, the fourth submarine to be built under Project 75, has been commissioned into the Navy. INS Vela to be part of Western Naval Command (Mumbai). Project 75 is part of the Indian Navy's 30-year plan for indigenous submarine construction, approved in 2007. The project envisaged indigenous construction of 6 conventional submarines at an estimated cost of ₹ 43,000 crores. These 6 submarines are – INS Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj, Vela, Vagir, and Vagsheer.
